Promising Land

Promising Land is a photographic exploration of how communities and individuals persist in their identification even in, or precisely because of, the new contexts in which they find themselves. It is also a teasing exploration of the limits of such identities - how deep and how wide do they extend? How open is tradition to new interpretations and applications? At its heart, though, it is also an appropriate tribute to a community that, after a span of almost one and a half centuries, can justifiably be proud of what they have accomplished and who they are.

'Capturing portraits of residents in costume for the celebratory parades, along with some collaborative posed work, creating visionary landscapes like beautiful, bastardized classical Dutch paintings, Clement has put together a body of work that portrays brilliantly the confused identity of a latter-generation immigrant.' - GUP Magazine.
