Timescapes
New York Timescapes are about time and space. The work shows large city panoramas; large collages which have been constructed from hundreds of small pictures, shot over days, weeks, even months. My goal is to capture the energy in the sea of movement surrounding the buildings, and transfer this frenetic, churning energy onto a planar surface, using time as a fourth dimension, creating multiple layers of reality. It feels like standing still in one place in the city, eyes blinking rapidly over an extended period of time; the mind and memory will melt all the observations into one swirling image. Some parts of the image will be clear, others will be opaque, but collectively they will reveal a deeper sense of being. Connecting space, time and people together.
